Numbers Game

I got to thinking about numbers the other day as i was falling asleep and realized that there are several numbers that are instantly recognizable by most people. Some others are instantly recognized by certain groups. Anyway here is a numbers quiz for you. See how many you can get and respond in comments. Some may be a bit ambiguous so I tried to group them together so think in themes, each theme starts with a very recognizable number. Also, units are not shown. So without further ado see what you can get with no help.

oops, reviewing my answers I see that I was an order of magnitude off with the answer to 24,855.82. Distance to the moon is 238,857.00 miles.

Actually, Davie would correct you on 29,029 for Mount Everest. He has been telling me since I was about eight that Mount Everest was 29,035 ft. That's why I didn't get that one

Ok, Ok wikipedia says 29, 029, but on further research I found this:

"Scientists supported by the National Geographic and Boston's Museum of Science were able to operate Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite equipment on the very top of Mount Everest last May and have determined the precise height of the world's tallest mountain: seven feet higher than the current official elevation.

The revised elevation - 29,035 feet (8850 meters), two meters or seven feet higher than the previously accepted figure - was announced Nov. 11 by Bradford Washburn, renowned mountain photographer/explorer and honorary director of Boston's Museum of Science, at the opening reception of the 87th annual meeting of the American Alpine Club."

However several of these numbers are estimates (such as 14 billion (years by the way)). They should be close enought o be recognized.
Ask Dave what 768 is too.

80 billion: galaxies in universe

Once you said years I got those ones, then figured going with the universe theme the 80 billion might be galaxies?

Kinda hard to do without seeing others' answers. But to add...
1.618: divine proportion (this is a really cool number if you are into art and architecture). Another fascinating number is Zero. You would be amazed the history behind this number, or lack of number. Sometimes known as the devils number because if God is everything then who is nothing?
5280: Feet in a mile (come on Aaron :-)) But I must admit you got ones I would not.

5280 I have to admit I don't know that one. Ask me m/km or something. I guess I never found ft/mi useful enough to remember.

I'll take a stab at this one. Are the delimiters wrong? Re-Interpreting them as:

Average distance from earth to sun in the following measurements:
au, millions of miles, ?, light minutes.

Yeah, but 92,855,820 is equal to 92 million or so. So the numbers were right, and that was it distance to the sun.

I googled the answers we hadn't come up with yet and found out what 88600 was but I'm still at a loss for 768 and 9-1=8.

88,600 - nice googling on that one Meg, not easy to find unless you take the highest mountain on earth into account...which I didn't.

Good times, I have thought about asking the people that live there to let me tour the house whenever i pass it , but haven't mustered up the audacity yet.

Ok, 9-1=8 is a bit to vague I guess. But I did hint that it was an old odd topic. You would see that one of the first was how they had stopped counting Pluto as a planet. So 9 planets minus one is now 8 planets in the solar system.
